San Marino – a medieval-style fairy tale

If you are lucky enough to be in the resort town of Rimini in Italy, then do not be lazy to break off from the beautiful beach and visit the world's oldest republic of San Marino. You can just take a bus (it costs about 5 euros one way) or rent a car and admire the beautiful mountain scenery and arrange a photo shoot on the way.
Personally, I preferred cars and freedom of movement. We took the car right there to Rimini (it cost 70 euros per day, almost brand new Renault Laguna). The road was a steep mountain serpentine, and unaccustomed to the number of turns, my companions couldn't help but feel dizzy. The republic itself is a small square measuring 10X10 km and consists of several towns and the Capital itself with a population of about 5 thousand people. The uniqueness of this republic is that it has not changed its borders for 550 years. It survived medieval principalities, the Third Reich, the USSR and other historical events and has maintained its independence since 301.
When we arrived at the fortress wall of the main city, it became clear to me why no one had reached them. The capital stands at an altitude of over 700m above sea level, surrounded on one side by a high fortress wall, on the other by a sheer cliff and accessible only by a narrow path and through the fortress gates. It is noteworthy that the cars there have their own license plates. As an exclusive souvenir, I bought their visa for 5 euros in the form of a stamp pasted into the passport (although a visa is not required there).
We took a walking tour inside the city. For me, there was a feeling of isolation from the world, economic crises and other global troubles, I found myself in a small fairy tale. The panoramic view and landscapes that you can observe from the height of the fortress wall are especially impressive. Among the attractions, I advise you to visit the Inquisition Museum, where we were very impressed by some of the exhibits. as well as the "Red Square" with chimes and a statue of St. Marino. The Government building looked interesting, with a bust of Gandhi at the entrance and guards dressed in uniforms of medieval times. You can ride the 700-meter-long cable car (costs 3 euros) and runs at 15-minute intervals. There are also souvenir shops, mini boutiques and wine shops in abundance on the narrow streets. We had a snack in a super-expensive restaurant to support the economy of this small country, but we were satisfied with the cultural service and the atmosphere of friendliness and comfort.
It was getting dark and we decided to leave this fabulous republic, so as not to tempt fate by driving along an unlit serpentine road. I didn't want to leave, because ahead of us was a bustling resort town and a return to the hustle and bustle of our lives. On the way back, everyone was silent, probably impressed by all the sensations they received in this beautiful, fabulous and independent country.
